Frequency of macroprolactinaemia in pregnant women

چکیده
Prolactin (PRL) is a 198 polypeptide hormone involved in many biological functions in women. The main role of PRL is primarily associated with lactation and breast development. There are 3 isoforms of PRL: the little (23 kDa), the big (50-60 kDa) and the big-big also named macroprolactin (> 100 kDa). Macroprolactin was described for the first time nearly 30 years ago but the structure of the complex is still unclear. Macroprolactin is reported a large complex consisted of monomeric PRL and mainly immunoglobulin G. The aim of the study was to estimate frequency of macroprolactinaemia in normal pregnant women in the third trimester. Clinical study included 300 healthy pregnant women between 24 and the 28 weeks of gestation. Serum PRL concentration was measured using ELISA method. Prolactin recovery was estimated with the use of polyethylene glycol (PEG) precipitation. We demonstrated that 3% of 300 pregnant women in the third trimester of pregnancy presented macroprolactinaemia. In conclusion, macroprolactinaemia occurs also in healthy pregnant women but in very low percent.

Prevalence of macroprolactinaemia in regularly menstruating women with non-toxic goitre or autoimmune thyroid disease
UNLABELLED BACKGROUND The so called "big-big" prolactin (Prl), also known as macroprolactin is formed by Prl-immunoglobulin (Prl-IgG) complexes and may cause elevation of serum Prl concentrations measured by standard assays, potentially leading to unnecessary investigations and/or treatment. In our study, we have endeavoured to assess the prevalence of macroprolactinaemia in euthyroid, regul...
متن کاملCoexistence of macroprolactinaemia and hyperprolactinaemia in women with oligo-/amenorrhoea is associated with high risk of pituitary adenomas.
Macroprolactin may cause elevation of prolactin (PRL) concentrations measured by standard assays. In our study, we assessed the prevalence of pituitary lesions in women with macroprolactinaemia and either oligomenorrhoea or secondary amenorrhoea. Pituitary MRI scans were performed in 61 women aged 31.0 ± 6.7 years (mean ± SD), with raised PRL concentrations due to macroprolactinaemia, detec...
متن کاملFrequency of Human papilloma virus among pregnant women by PCR technique
Today, it has been confirmed that the viral infections play an important role in premature delivery and abortion. This study was carried out to determine the frequency rate of papilloma virus types 16 and 18 in pregnant women and their relationship with premature delivery and abortion. In this study, vaginal secretions were collected from pregnant women who had been referred to the women clinic...
متن کاملUrinary Tract Infections Caused By Group B Streptococcus in Adult Women: Survey of 11800 Urine Culture Results
Background and Objective: Early diagnosis of Streptococcus agalactiae remains difficult, since symptoms are very nonspecific. Its frequency has not been completely investigated in urinary tract pathogen of pregnant ant and non pregnant women in Iran. The aim of this study was determining the frequency of Group B Streptococci in female patients. Materials and Met...
متن کاملFrequency of Group B Streptococcal Colonization in Pregnant Women Aged 35-37 Weeks in Clinical Centers of Shahed University, Tehran, Iran
Background & Objectives: One of the important infectious factors in pregnant mothers and newborns is Group B Streptococcus (GBS). There is no perfect report about prevalence of GBS in Iran and in the case of preterm rupture of amniotic membrane or preterm labor all patients are treated by antibiotics without culture so this has led to adverse taking antibiotics and drug resistance. The...
